GenieSummary

Downstream (Mt) in Fort Peck, MT has a spacious campground with lots of mature trees and a long nature trail. However, river and lake access is limited without a boat, and the nature trail is separated from the river by a swampy, mosquito infested, cattail laden barrier. There is only one swimming beach a few miles away that does not allow dogs. This is a better place to stay if you have a boat because the lake is the main attraction. Be aware that it gets very hot in the summer, and some campsites do not have any shade. The nearest stores are about 30 miles away, so make sure to come well-stocked. Additionally, if coming from the east or west on US 2, be sure to take the truck route Highway 42 down to the lake to avoid a low clearance bridge with no warning sign. Additionally, it is not recommended to park under the cottonwood trees, as the sap can be difficult to remove from vehicles. Overall, Downstream (Mt) is a nice park with electric and water hookups and a sewer dump outside the park.
