Makoshika State Park in Glendive, Montana is a great place to enjoy the stunning Badlands scenery with wildflowers and blooming cactus along the road. The parks main draw is the Badlands geography and fossils. This campground is located close to the interstate, making it an ideal stopover for RV campers. Although there are no electric sites or dump station, potable water is available at the campground. The roads are paved, although some are better than others, and the sites are a mix of blacktop and gravel. There are water hydrants and vault toilets, and the campground is very clean and geared for dry camping. The hiking trails are the perfect way to explore the unique formations that make a visit to this park a must. The campground is small and sites may seem crowded together, but campers are often quiet and respectful. One should be careful on the road from the visitor center to the campground as it can be very rough. With no crowding in September, hikers should enjoy the many trails, especially in the mornings when the weather is cooler. Makoshika State Park is a terrific place to stay for those who love rustic camping with plenty of water accessible throughout.
