There is also a nearby boat ramp and a small, beautiful white sand beach with gradual increase in depth, perfect for swimming with family. The campground is very popular and often fills up, so it is recommended to book in advance. The only downside is that the distance to the beach is a bit far for those who may experience ambulatory problems. There is also a sign for a nature trail, but it is not accessible during heavy rain. All in all, Homestead Knolls is a great place to stay and enjoy fishing and the sandhills of Nebraska.

From The Campground

Calamus State Recreation Area offers basic non-pad campsites with access to water, restrooms, and shower houses. The Valley View Flat Campground has a group campground that accommodates up to eight tents, and reservations are available for this area. Beach camping is not permitted. Half of the electrical campsites can be reserved up to a year in advance, while all other camping is first-come, first-served. Campers register their nightly camping fees in a raised, locked box called an Iron Ranger. Self-service envelopes are provided at each Iron Ranger station. Check or cash only. Iron Rangers are generally located near the park entrance or in the campground area. On-site camping informational signs are provided to help guide campers with the self-registration process.
