Hunter Cove is a large, clean, and well-maintained park with around 150 campsites, some with power and some without. There are also several tent-only sites, all well marked and maintained, including water sites. The pad surfaces are either gravel or grass, both hard packed. All park facilities including showers, toilets, and laundry services are clean and have limited flies. The park is set in a rural area and has a liquor store and a bait shop nearby. The park is blessed with a lot of mature tress giving most sites a nice shade and a view of the lake. There are two playgrounds, a volleyball court, a fish cleaning station with grinder and running water, and a boat ramp. Walleye, wipers, white bass, northern pike, and channel catfish are the most sought-after fish species. Game animals include pheasant, quail, prairie chicken, white-tailed and mule deer, turkey, waterfowl, rabbit, and squirrel. The park offers a variety of hiking trails, of varying length and style, as well as one equestrian trail a short drive away. An off-road vehicle trail is located in nearby Republican City. The lake offers several water activities, including bird watching, fishing, and kayaking. Watercraft must have the AIS decal to enter local waterways.
