Rye Patch State Recreation Area is a beautiful dry camping spot in a river valley in northern Nevada with plenty of room between sites. Both campgrounds, River and Westside, are dry camping but have flush toilets and showers which are cleaned every morning. The River campground has large trees providing plenty of shade while the Westside campground, which appears to be newly built, has small trees that provide minimal shade. Each site at the Westside campground has a metal ramada, picnic table, grill, and fire pit. The sites are arranged in a horseshoe pattern and located close to one another. If the campground is full, the sites will be close to one another. The park rangers patrol the area frequently throughout the day. Water spigots are located throughout the campgrounds and a dump station is available between the dam and Westside campground. Verizon cell service is not reliable, but some service can be obtained in certain areas of the campground. Overall, Rye Patch State Recreation Area offers a beautiful and peaceful spot for dry camping.
