GenieSummary

Follow the rules to the T. Andy the Ranger is a stickler for rules and a nice guy. Wild Horse Reservoir is the perfect place to get away from it all. This Nevada State Recreation Area is located in a beautiful, remote location and offers a variety of activities to enjoy. Each campsite has a picnic table, rain/sunshade, and fire ring, as well as plenty of sun for solar panels. The bathroom facilities are the fanciest youll find for $15 per night. There is a boat ramp and parking lot with a swimming beach area just below the campground, making it great for boating, fishing, and paddling. The winds make it great for sailing and sailboarding, and there are numerous hikes along forest roads in the area. Mountain biking is also a great option. The nearest town with services is Owyhee, about 35 miles away. There is no cell service in the campground, but it can be found on hikes up the mountain. The campground is very clean and the camp host makes sure it is kept that way. There is no WiFi, but there is good cell service with AT&T. There is a trash dumpster at the ranger station, and a boat ramp with ample parking. It is a great spot to stay for a week or so, with great views and good fishing. There are some negatives to consider, such as the loud construction-type generators that people bring, and the flies in the changing weather. However, this is a great spot for big rigs, with a dump station and water available.

From The Campground

Wild Horse State Recreation Area is a year-round park located in a treeless high and cold desert. The park offers camping, cabins, picnicking, boating, fishing, winter activities, and hiking. The park has three cabins available for rent year-round, which feature a covered front deck, living room with sleeper sofa, eating area with table, chairs, mini-fridge, microwave (no cooktop or conventional oven), bathroom, heating and air conditioning. The park also has a picnic area with a nice view of the reservoir and offers picnic tables and grills. Fishing is a popular activity at Wild Horse, with rainbow trout being the most pursued. German brown trout, small mouth bass, wiper, yellow perch and catfish are also in the reservoir. Visitors can also enjoy snowmobiling and skiing during winter. The park is open seven days a week, 365 days a year.
