Gilson Pond Campground is a great place to stay for those looking to explore the trails of Mount Monadnock. With a decent bathhouse, a small playground, and a loop trail around Gilson Pond, there is plenty to do. The camp store/office may be closed due to fund cut backs, but you can still enjoy the 3,600 foot peak of Mount Monadnock or take a gentle, shorter pond walk. Be aware that dogs are not allowed in Monadnock State Park and that wood for a fire can only be purchased from the camp store. The campground is a bit remote and the edge of the site drops off a small ledge of boulders, so be prepared to do a 134 point turn in order to get the tow vehicle back out.
From The Campground
Monadnock State Park offers two Campground areas. Monadnock State Park Headquarters and Gilson Pond. All sites allow for family camping. The campground road is closed in winter, and campers must park in the main hiking parking area and hike their gear to their site (about ¼ mile). Gilson Pond Campground is closed for winter.
