Rio Chama RV Park in Chama, New Mexico, is a great place to stay from May 1st to mid-October. Located at the intersection of the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad and the upper Rio Chama, this park offers a unique opportunity to experience the excitement of the train passing by twice a day, as well as the chance to explore the nearby train yard. Pull-through sites offer great shade and full hookups with 30 or 50 amp electrical service, while spacious tent sites have full service restrooms nearby. The park is pet-friendly with a dog park and free wifi, and is a great place for fishing, train watching, and relaxing. There are many options for camping, from secluded sites to dispersed camping down the road. There are also hiking spots, the echo amphitheater, and a monastery to visit. Visitors can even make objects from the clay in the river and fire them in the campfire. The campground is free and has plenty of sites, but some are unshaded, so visitors should bring a tent cover or something. There is also easy access to the river for kayaking or rafting, and visitors should remember to pack out what they pack in.

From The Campground

Rio Chama Campground is located on the Rio Chama Wild & Scenic River. The campground offers ten individual campsites, each including a picnic table and a campfire ring. RV's up to 20 feet can be accommodated in only a few sites. There is no potable water or hookups available. The campground is open from April to November and is a first-come, first-serve facility. The closest town is Abiquiu, NM.
