Angel Peak Campground is a free campground located off US Highway 550, 15 miles south of Bloomfield, New Mexico. Angel Peak Campground is located in the Angel Peak Scenic Area, about 30 miles southeast of Farmington, NM. The campground offers nine tent camping sites, each with picnic tables, fire grates, and gravel pathways. Three campsites have picnic shelters, two with single shelters and one with a double shelter suitable for larger groups. Two accessible vault toilets and trash receptacles are conveniently located in the campground. A short nature trail winds among the plants that have found a niche along the desolate rim and leads to an overlook of the canyon where a bench is provided for relaxing and enjoying the view. The campground is open year-round and fees are not required. However, there are no electrical hookups or water available. Visitors should be prepared for changing weather and carry plenty of water. The area is subject to seasonal extremes and visitors should be aware of their surroundings, as rattlesnakes are common in the area. Shooting is prohibited and collection of vertebrate fossils is prohibited except for scientific studies under permit by the BLM. Permits are required for commercial, competitive and organized group events.
