What others are saying about this campground
Ponil Park is a great value campground located 40 miles from the nearest paved road. It is situated in the Valle Vidal hunting area and is a great place to stay for those looking to refresh their tanks after a week of boondocking. The sites are arrayed across a large open grass field with the utility posts aligned RVs park alternating direction giving the sites that are close together a feeling of more spaciousness and preserving some of the common green space in the CG. The park is fairly clean and offers a laundry area plus public restrooms. The sites are tight and have shade, with utility locations that are adequate and up to spec. There is also a $27.00 platform fee for online reservations and a 3% charge for credit cards. The roads are dirt, some sites are paved, but mainly grass/dirt and level. The CG is right next to Hwy 64 but that road is lightly traveled so there is little noise. The owner is friendly and accommodating and understands the park is dated.

From The Campground
Ponil Campgrounds is located in northern New Mexico at the foot of the Rocky Mountains. They offer both RV parking and tent camping. The park has an out in the country feeling with large trees, a creek on the perimeter, deer and wild turkey roaming through the park. They have fire pits, picnic tables, a regulation horseshoe pit, a large screened-in pavilion, 2 bathhouses, and a laundry room for guests to use. The pavilion can be reserved for private parties like birthdays, anniversaries, family reunions, etc. Many of their guests stay here 4-6 months a year. They often arrange potlucks, card and domino games, shopping excursions, family movie nights during the summer.
