GenieSummary
Scorpion Gila Cliff Dwellings is a free campground that offers 6-8 closely spaced sites with basic amenities like a clean vault toilet, picnic table, fire ring, and water. The sites are located right near the entrance to the cliff dwellings trail and just a short walk to the nearby river. The drive into the campground takes around 90 minutes from Silver City on a paved road that can get twisty at times. No cell service is available in the area, but there is a store nearby that offers Wi-Fi. Plan ahead and bring wood as it can be tough to find in the area and pack out all trash as there is no trash pickup. Despite being a small parking lot with nearby tent sites, this campground offers spectacular night skies and a peaceful atmosphere. The Upper and Lower Scorpion campsites have no services except for pit toilets, but they are lovely spots for tent camping.
From The Campground
Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument does not offer camping facilities. However, there are four United States Forest Service campgrounds within a 10-minute drive of the park. These campgrounds provide primitive camping opportunities along the Gila River. The campsites are free of charge and first-come, first-served. Drinking water is available, and vault toilets are provided on site. RVs and trailers are not recommended in the Grapevine campground due to a tight turn at the entrance.
