Fenton Lake State Park, located in Jemez Springs, NM, offers visitors a serene camping experience surrounded by tall pines and a beautiful creek. Though the road to the developed campsites is rough and in need of maintenance, the campsites themselves are laid out well. The area dedicated to developed sites is fairly small and the campsites are situated a little closer to each other than ideal, but the abundance of canopy coverage makes it very picturesque. While the park can get busy during the summer, camping towards the back provides a peaceful respite and offers access to a fantastic hike along the creek to the lake. Tables are not under cover, but that has not posed an issue except in rainy weather. Be prepared for potential winter weather and bring your own water as necessary. Overall, Fenton Lake State Park provides a beautiful and relaxing spot for camping in New Mexico.

From The Campground

Fenton Lake State Park is a mellow mountain escape surrounded by beautiful ponderosa pine forests. The Rio Cebolla flows through the park and the lake provides an opportunity to fish and canoe. The park also attracts campers, hikers, and cross-country skiers. Stocked with rainbow trout from fall through spring, the lake is home to German brown trout, and is an ideal spot for flyfishing. Although most anglers prefer the warmth and comfort of summer, there is also winter ice fishing.
