GenieSummary

Redondo Campground is a great basecamp for exploring the Jemez mountains, with excellent access to quality rock climbing, day hikes, and nearby attractions like the Valles Caldera National Preserve and Bandelier National Monument. The sites are somewhat hilly, but have the basic Forest Service amenities such as picnic tables, fire rings, and pads. The sites are flat, but there are not designated pads, so you have options in tent placement. All sites have an enclosed fire pit and older-style large, concrete picnic tables. The campground is busy, and is immediately off NM highway 4, so you cant expect solitude and silence. However, the sites are large enough to easily accommodate two vehicles and multiple parties, likewise allows plenty of room for setting up goodies like slacklines and hammocks, and the size of the sites allows you plenty of room to set up away from adjacent sites if you want a bit more privacy. There are some sites at the far end away from the road which are more secluded, but most in the center are packed in pretty tight. Unfortunately, the campground is currently closed due to extreme drought, and needs to be thinned out to be safer from wildfire.

From The Campground

Redondo Campground is located in the Jemez National Recreation Area and offers 62 campsites for tents, RVs, and trailers up to 30 feet. The campground is situated in a stand of Ponderosa Pine interspersed with grass and wildflower meadows. The Valles Caldera and Bandelier National Monument are within driving distance, both are accessed via the Jemez Mountains Trail National Scenic Byway (NM State Highway 4).
