Located between Artesia and Carlsbad, The Ranch in Lakewood, NM is a peaceful and picturesque Escapees campground reserved only for members. Once on the property, you will be enveloped by quietness and serenity: SKP members have to be the nicest people you will ever meet and everyone is extremely helpful. The park is nestled on a working cattle ranch and the cows can sometimes be seen roaming around it. The residents nicely maintain the park and you can feel free to walk any of the parks quiet trails. The park is about 16 miles from Artesia and roughly 20 miles from Carlsbad, making it a great base camp to explore the local state parks, lakes, and Carlsbad Caverns. The park facilities are well-equipped, and the Escapees membership offers boondockers a free overnight stay with access to general amenities, including fresh water and a dump station at a specific location in the park. Even in the boondocking area, there were no unpleasant smells and everything felt well-maintained. The campsites host helps you back in safely, and most members own the sites, which makes the property well-maintained and organized. Although the park is in the middle of nowhere, you will feel like youre in a community, with weekly activities like bingo to bring everyone together. If you want peace, calm, and yet to be around friendly people, The Ranch in Lakewood, NM is an amazing place to haul your RV.

From The Campground

The Original Ranch is an SKP Co-op Park for members of the Escapees RV Club located on the northern edge of the Chihuahuan Desert in Southeastern New Mexico between Artesia and Carlsbad. Established in 1982 by Escapee founders Joe and Kay Peterson, The Original Ranch's mission is based on the concept of community, sharing and service. The park is run by volunteers, encouraging members to form a community that shares knowledge, skills, and talents. The Ranch is also renowned for being the friendliest park in the Escapees system, as evidenced by the welcome bell that draws members to the office to welcome each new arrival with hugs and smiles. All members are encouraged to participate in committee activities of their choice and social events. There is something here for everyone to do and to enjoy!
