GenieSummary

Mills Canyon Campground is a beautiful location, surrounded by ranch land as you make your way down the canyon. The road is only about 2 miles and is accessible by most stock SUVs or Subarus, but be cautious when its wet as the mud can be very slippery. Trailers are not recommended and larger campers may not fit. However, the 12 spots are spread out and offer tables, fire pits, and charcoal grill stands. There is no water or trash service, so be sure to pack it all out. The valley and the ruins of the old homestead offer a great view. It can get very hot in the summer, so bring an easy up for shade. Theres a lot of opportunity for hiking and biking with wildlife such as turkeys and deer. Just be aware that hunting is allowed and there have been sightings of bears and cougars in the area. Fishing is possible in the river, but be prepared for the grassy waters. Maps are available to explore the surrounding grasslands area or to hike to the rim of the canyon for a great view. Its definitely worth the drive, highly recommended. There is also a campsite on the rim for those who dont wish to venture down and they have horse paddocks available for use.

From The Campground

Mills Canyon Campground is a remote campground situated within the Canadian River Canyon at an elevation of 5,160 feet. The campground has 12 camping units available and is open year-round. The road leading to the campground is very narrow, steep, and winding, and high clearance vehicles are recommended due to rough road conditions. During periods of sustained rainfall, grassland pastures and road surfaces may become inundated and impassable due to periods of flash flooding, especially Mills Canyon Road #600.
