What others are saying about this campground
Located in the stunning Rio Grande Gorge, this BLM campground offers a unique camping experience. With several small camp loops along the river, you can find a campsite to fit your needs. Primitive camping is available, with no water access or power, but there are showers and potable water at the second camp loop on the road. You can take in the beauty of the changing leaves, walk down to the river right from your campsite, and stargaze to your hearts content. No cell service is available for several miles, so plan accordingly. The campground has great amenities, including a pay shower house, fishing and rafting opportunities, and hiking trails in and at the top of the gorge. RV sites are available with hookups for a low price, and the setting is beautiful. The road in is asphalt and the sites are gravel, and the restrooms are immaculate. There are also speed bumps inside the campground. The camp host is friendly and helpful, and the campground is quiet at night. Tiny bugs come out at night, so be sure to plug up any gaps in your windows. Spring and fall are the best times to visit, as the campgrounds fill up on summer weekends.

From The Campground

Orilla Verde Recreation Area is a beautiful semi-arid campground located along the Rio Grande in Embudo, New Mexico. The campground is known for its diversity of plant life and attracts many species of animals, including raptors, songbirds, waterfowl, beaver, cougar, ringtail, mule deer, and more. The area is also rich in history, with evidence of ancient peoples found throughout the Recreation Area in the form of petroglyphs on the rocks and many other types of archaeological sites. The campground offers seven campgrounds, boat launches, picnic tables, grills, drinking water, and restrooms. Four of the campgrounds also have drinking water and shelters available. Pilar Campground and Río Bravo Campground both have RV sites with water and electric hookup (no sewer).
