What others are saying about this campground
Villanueva State Park, located in Villanueva, NM, is a beautiful and serene camping spot for anyone looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life. The winding road down to the canyon is steep, but once you arrive, youll be greeted with a green oasis amidst the dry prairie. After passing through the small village, the park can be accessed by car. The sites are gravel and all are back-in, yet they are quite spacious. The park ranger will check on you after you settle in. The sites are equipped with electricity, and many are covered by shade trees. Every picnic table is situated under sun shelters. Water is accessible throughout the park, but some sites share water with their neighbors. While we did not check the washrooms, the showers and toilets were functional and clean. Although there is no wifi at the sites and cell signal is weak, you can find some wifi outside of the small visitor center, which was closed during our visit. According to some locals, when the river is low, tubing is possible. The park rangers are friendly and knowledgeable. However, there is no dumpster, so large trash items must be taken out. Bringing a water filter is recommended since water pumps are scattered and it was not clear if the water was potable. Dont forget to pack essential supplies; there is a small convenience store nearby, but it doesnt stock much. The closest actual stores are in Las Vegas. One ranger recommended Route 84 for easier travel. The camping sites are mostly two per location: back to back such that they dont seem close together. Some tables appeared to be on the wrong side. Overall, Villanueva State Park offers an ideal camping spot, cheap with nice shelters and essential amenities. We commend the rangers for being helpful and kind throughout our stay. The park is a great place for hiking, including slight rock climbing, and communing with nature. With these offerings, Villanueva State Park in Villanueva, NM is definitely worth a visit.

From The Campground
Villanueva State Park is a beautiful park nestled between high sandstone bluffs that form a canyon along the Pecos River near the small Village of Villanueva. The park offers developed campsites along the Pecos River that can host RVs up to 40 feet. First come, first serve sites are available year-round. The park also offers a group shelter that is available to rent and makes a great place for gatherings and reunions. Visitors can enjoy fishing, birding, wildflower viewing, hiking the trails along the canyon walls, and quality fishing for catfish in summer and trout in winter. Tubing on the Pecos River is a popular activity. Pets are welcome on a leash. Please clean up after. The park experiences all four seasons, so visitors should prepare accordingly.
