From The Campground

Moffitt Beach Campground & Day Use Area is a historic campground situated on lands that once belonged to Josiah Moffitt, a local stone mason and woodworking mill operator who settled in the region prior to 1840. The campground offers camping facilities and day use areas, and is an outdoor classroom for young children (5-13) and their families. The beach area was a popular picnic and camping area, and high quality sand was mined by Mr. Moffitt for his mason trade, and by local residents to develop many of the sand beaches that now exist in the area. The campground was developed in 1932 and was enlarged in 1955. It offers a variety of outdoor activities and is located near shopping, restaurants, boat rentals, and golf courses.
