GenieSummary

The Oconaluftee Visitors Center is a beautiful campground located just outside the town of Cherokee, and just outside the southern entrance of the Great Smokey Mountains National Park. It is Cherokee owned, and on tribal lands in a smaller valley with the Raven Fork River flowing strong alongside. There are flat lots with full hook ups, a HUGE CLEAN shower house, and a beautiful setting by the stream and surrounded by the mountians. The campground is very quiet, except for the daily trash truck, and the Verizon cellular service is very weak due to the park being surrounded by mountains and the camps WiFi being non-existent. There is a small video game room and a store, but if you are looking for lots of kid and family activities at your campground this is probably not for you. The staff and camp workers are friendly and helpful, with many returning year-after-year, and are willing to help navigating your rig into a spot if needed. The campground is a great place to relax by the river and explore the area, and if you really want to see the elk, there will be plenty at the Oconaluftee Visitors Center during the evening, which is only a ten minute drive.
