Shackleford Banks Camping offers 8 miles of primitive beaches available to tent campers. Visitors must bring enough food and water for their entire camping trip, as water is not available on the island. Proper food storage is a must, as sea gulls, horses, and raccoons are very adept at raiding camps. There are no trash cans on the islands, so visitors must take all their trash out of the park when they leave. Open campfires can only be built below the high tide line and be no wider than 3 feet in diameter. Hammocks may only be used if they can be made free-standing. Pets are required to be on leashes at all times.
