This campground is the perfect spot for a remote getaway. Located close to groceries and businesses, it offers lots of trails for hiking and biking, as well as water activities in season. The sites are huge, level and concrete, with fire pits and picnic tables. Unfortunately, there is no Wi-Fi, but cell service is limited for AT&T (no 5G) and the 50 amp service needs to be upgraded. The lake does not open for swimming until after Memorial Day, but there is a zip line, water ski jump, and horse stables for fun activities in the warmer weather. The check-in process is easy and the staff is friendly, with washers and dryers available. The only downside is the dust and helicopters from Fort Bragg that circle overhead until the wee hours of the morning.

Smith Lake Recreation Area offers a variety of outdoor activities including mountain biking, hiking, fishing, and disc golf. The disc golf course features 18 holes with varying levels of difficulty. The campground is pet-friendly and offers RV and tent camping. Alcohol is not allowed in park areas or at the beach. Hunting is strictly prohibited.
