The campground is situated on the sound side of the Outer Banks, and is a short walk through the dunes to the beach. The campground is well maintained and the staff is friendly and helpful. The campground is close to the town of Nags Head, which has restaurants and a grocery store. The campground is also close to the Wright Brothers National Memorial, Jockeys Ridge State Park, and other attractions. The campground is exposed to the wind, so sand stakes are necessary to keep tents in place. There is no shade, so it can get very hot in the summer. The campground is the closest legit campground to the open 4x4 beaches of Corolla Island and offers easy access to all the surf and fishing. It is the first campground found on the island, very close to Nags Head, on the beach side of route 12. It is a short walk over the dunes to the beach and close to other points of interest such as Wright Brothers National Memorial, Jockey’s Ridge State Park and the town of Nags Head. There are free hot showers, and the campground is within about 15 mins of restaurants, gas stations, a full grocery store, Jennette’s Pier, and attractions in Nags Head. Youll hear the ocean waves pretty much all night from all or most sites, and the star viewing is also great here.
