Roatan National Forest Campground is a peaceful and picturesque campground situated in the Roatan National Forest. The campground is close to New Bern, NC and other attractions such as Fort Macon, the NC Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores, and Emerald Isle and Morehead City. There are mix of electric and non-electric sites, as well as a dump station and water located just outside of the camp gate. The shoreline is on a river and is currently about 1000 yards of fallen large trees and debris, and the Forest Service needs to spend money to upgrade the sites and remove some of the underbrush. The campground is clean and has on-site hosts, with good size lots for big rigs. There is a trail running above the river of the family picnic area, and campground and into the nearby woods, but access to the beach and riverbank is restricted. Guests may occasionally hear fighter aircraft from the nearby Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point. There is a restroom that was built in the last ten years with hot showers and another one that needs some work. The spigot was leaky and constantly draining a stream of water on the ground when the handle was in the off position. Upon arrival guests must call or text the host who is sitting in the the fifth wheel parked in the site next to the gate.
