What others are saying about this campground
Pilot Mountain State Park is a great destination for camping and outdoor activities. The campground offers 49 rustic campsites, each with a grated fire pit, concrete pad for pitching a tent, picnic table, and grill. The sites are shaded by tall hardwood trees and are nicely spaced out, but can get crowded in the summer and fall months. The campground is located at the base of a windy road leading up to Pilot Mountain, approximately 2 miles from the top. From the summit parking lot, there are breathtaking views of Pilot Mountain and the valleys below, as well as access to a variety of easy to strenuous hiking trails. The park is also known for its steep cliffs, perfect for rock climbing and rappelling. The camp host was friendly and helpful, offering a small bundle of wood for free. There are no water or electric hookups, which can be preferred for a more peaceful camping experience. The campground is about 30 minutes from Winston Salem, making it a great weekend getaway. Pay attention to the site sizes shown on the camp map, as not many are suitable for larger rigs.
