There is a small swimming lake, a large covered picnic pavilion that can be rented for the day, and a welcome center and campground. The rangers are friendly and the campgrounds are well maintained. There are fun hiking trails, fishing and swimming with nice changing rooms. The park is close to the Spencer Johnson Airforce Base, so you can enjoy the sight and sound of fighter jets flying overhead. The biggest draw of this park is the view of the Neuse River from atop the cliffs. There are also a few relatively easy hiking trails, a small nature center, and a lake where you can swim and rent canoes. The campsites are spacious and well spaced with plenty of shade. The full hook up sites have electric, water, and sewer, and each is easy to access. Fire ants can be a problem, so be aware of that. The picnic shelters must be reserved on weekends.
