From The Campground

Lake Waccamaw State Park is located in Columbus County, NC, and sits on the shores of the largest Carolina bay. The lake is one of the few that contains open water instead of vegetation, and a limestone bluff reduces the lake's acidity, making it an ideal home for several aquatic species that are found nowhere else in the world. Visitors can travel the lake's entire 14-mile shoreline via a pedestrian bridge over Waccamaw Dam. The park offers tent sites, group tent sites, hiking trails, paddling, fishing, and picnicking. Amenities include a boat ramp, auditorium and classroom, visitor center and exhibits, and firewood. Pets are allowed at the park and at campsites.
