From The Campground
Burning Coal Vein Campground is a small, first-come, first-served campground located in the Dakota Prairie Grassland. It offers 8 sites, each with a picnic table and a fire ring with a grill. The campground is situated near the Columnar Juniper area and Ponderosa Pines, providing scenic views. Visitors can enjoy hiking and backpacking on the Maah Daah Hey trail, which has a trailhead located at the campground. The campground also offers accessible, unisex vault toilets and drinking water with a hand pump. The closest towns are Amidon and Medora, both located about halfway between the campground.
