The park offers a variety of amenities, such as a playground, trails, a river, and remnants of the fort and an Indian village. There are also two visitor centers that focus on celebrating and preserving the history of the area, both Native American and US Military. The campgrounds have nice bath houses, plus a playground for kids and naturalist programs with an enthusiastic staff. The sites are in big loops so there is lots of room for kids to run in the grass safely. There are also firewood and ice for sale near the camp host site. The utilities are located in the middle of the site, which can make it a little challenging to reach if you are trying to leave room for the other camper. This is a great park for a family getaway, offering plenty of activities such as fishing, hiking, biking, and exploring the historic sites. It is also close to Mandan and Bismarck, making it a great base for day trips.
