Sakakawea Lake is a 178-mile long lake located in North Dakota, with more shoreline than the coast of California. It extends from Riverdale to Trenton and is home to several recreation and wildlife areas offering outdoor recreation opportunities such as camping, boating, fishing, sailing, and hunting. The lake is also home to the North Country Scenic Trails Western Terminus, which travels across several states from New York to North Dakota and is 4510 miles long. Visitors can also explore several visitor centers such as the Garrison Dam Fish Hatchery, Lake Audubon, MHA Interpretive Center, and Knife River Indian Villages. There are 35 recreation areas at Sakakawea Lake, including American Legion Park, Beaver Creek, and Little Beaver, among others. The lake offers camping, fishing, swimming, hiking, and biking trails, among other activities. Age and disability discount passes are available, and the lake is managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
