Alum Creek State Park is a beautiful campground located just outside of Columbus, Ohio, offering large, private sites with good electric service and reasonable distance to the city. The campground is well-run with helpful staff, and is wooded throughout with clean bath houses, well-maintained roads, and easy access for big rigs. There are plenty of activities for kids, including a playground, horseshoes, and volleyball net. There is a campers beach, a dog park, and a fenced-in area in the lake to keep pets from swimming across. The camp store is closed during the week, but offers wood and other items (credit card only). There is also a restaurant that delivers to campsites. The bathrooms and showers are adequate, but can get nasty during the long weekend. Fire rings with flip-over grates and picnic tables are provided at each site. The lake is great for swimming, fishing, and kayaking, but the bacteria levels can be higher than state standards. Despite the road noise and plane traffic, Alum Creek State Park is a great spot for camping with family and friends.
