What others are saying about this campground
so bring your own. Sand Hollow AEP is a free campground located in the America Electric Power ReCreation area. This campground offers a variety of amenities for outdoor enthusiasts, including covered bridges, tree farms, hydro plants, deer hunting, horse trails, bike trails, dog training areas, and free camping with a permit. There are lots of campsites to choose from, ranging in size from tiny to huge, each with a picnic table and fire ring. Some campsites are right beside the water and have easy access for canoes and kayaks. There are multiple lakes nearby with boat ramps. The campground is great for tents, hammocks, or RVs, and the grounds are well-maintained and quiet. Unfortunately, the bugs can be bad, and there is poison ivy in the area. There is no cell service or electric hookup, and the water station is broken. However, there is a generous amount of room for parking right on your site, and portable bathrooms are available. The campground is perfect for nature lovers looking to get away from it all, as there is no light pollution at night and the scenery is beautiful.

From The Campground

AEP Recreation offers several recreational areas for camping, fishing, hiking, biking, horseback riding, and hunting. Visitors can enjoy The Wilds, Conesville, Poston Plant Lands, Southern Ohio Recreation Area, Fairbanks Landing, and Smith Mountain Lake. AEP has a long history of working with governments, conservation organizations, and other utilities to reclaim land, restore wildlife habitats, and offset greenhouse gas emissions in areas impacted through mining. These reclaimed areas are now available for recreation and enjoyment.
