Cowan Lake State Park is a great place for families to get away and enjoy the outdoors. Located off the main road, the campground offers a variety of sites, from electric to primitive, pet-friendly to handicapped, and pull-throughs to walk-on camping. The sites are spacious and spread out, with plenty of room between them for hammocks, running around, and privacy. The grounds are well-kept and level, making it ideal for bringing bikes for the kids. The lake is gorgeous and perfect for swimming, fishing, kayaking, and more. There is a beach, trails for hiking, a basketball court, multiple playgrounds, and an outdoor movie theater. The bathrooms are average for Ohio State parks and could use a good cleaning. The camp store offers bike rentals and the camp hosts are friendly and helpful. The Nature Center has recently been revamped and has a ramp for accessibility, as well as a new paw print trail. The B site campground is all non-electric tent camping and is quiet and peaceful. There is a lot of airplane traffic from the nearby DHL hub, but the campground is large enough that its not too disruptive. The campground store is closed during some times of the year, and the bathrooms and playground equipment could use some maintenance. All in all, Cowan Lake State Park is a great place to camp and explore the outdoors with the family.
