GenieSummary

This state park is located on a high peninsula overlooking a lake. It is a typical state park, with clean and well-maintained sites, fire rings, grills, and picnic tables. The park is exposed and not very shaded, making it hot in the summer. There is a lot of wind and the trailer rocked and rolled with the blasts. During our stay, there were wild fires in the area and the smoke was very thick. The park is great for bird watching, as there was a spring migration of many different species. The staff is friendly and helpful and the ranger knows the local sites and has lots of tips. Unfortunately, they do not offer full hookups and the camping pads are not well maintained. The water connections are also 20 feet away, making it difficult to access. The views are great and the spaces are not cramped. It is a great place to stay if you are looking to visit the Cherokee Heritage Centre, which is 15 miles away.

From The Campground

Cherokee Landing State Park is located on a peninsula in the Cookson Hills, just south of Tahlequah, and sits at the north end of Lake Tenkiller. This small but beautiful park offers some of the best camping on the lake, with RV sites featuring electric and water and accommodating rigs up to 40 feet long. The park also has a dump station, rentable shelters, and group RV camp. Guests can enjoy hiking along the Red Fox trail, relaxing on a stroll around the park, or playing outdoor volleyball or disc golf. The park is also great for birding and even migratory cranes. The south end of the park can be subject to flooding during high water events.
