Talimena State Park is a small but beautiful park in Oklahoma. It offers well-maintained W/E sites, which are flat, paved, and widely spaced. Although there is some road noise from the nearby highway, the parks natural beauty more than compensates. The hiking trails are close at hand and particularly lovely in the spring when the dogwoods are in bloom. The park has an all-in-one bathroom and shower facility, with one stall/shower/toilet for each gender in the older building and two stalls/showers/toilets for each gender in the newer one located nearby. The showers are clean and serviced twice daily. The dump station is located behind the older toilet. Verizon and AT&T cell service are available but inconsistent. The park office hours are limited, and there is no over-the-air television or cable.

Talimena State Park marks the Oklahoma entrance to the Talimena National Scenic Drive, a winding paved road through the Winding Stair Mountains that is known for spectacular spring and fall foliage. Hiking and backpacking trails throughout the Ouachita National Forest begin at Talimena State Park and offer a wide range of scenic, wooded terrain. Dirt bikes and ATVs are permitted in the park as an entrance point to the national forest lands. Talimena State Park offers 10 RV sites with 30 amp electricity and water hookups, seven designated tent campsites with pads and many other available areas suitable for tents. Picnic facilities include a pavilion with water and electric, extra-large grills and six tables. There are also fire rings, a playground, hiking trails and a comfort station with showers available within the park. A small gift shop is located on-site.
