Steens Mountain Wilderness Campground is a great spot for a peaceful getaway. Located in the high mountains, the campground offers stunning views of the surrounding canyons and glacial relics. It is well maintained and offers a variety of amenities, such as picnic tables, grills, vault toilets, and a solar well for water. The campground is open from late May to October and can get very cold at night during those months. It is also home to herds of wild horses and plenty of hiking trails. The campground is usually not very crowded, even on weekends, and the loop does not open until the first week of July. Site 2 should be avoided due to bees. It is a great spot for tent camping, but be sure to bring a pad for the rocky ground. It is also a great spot for RV camping, with a larger campsite at the beginning of the road that is flat with grass. The campground is close to Kiger Gorge and Wildhorse Lake, making it a great base camp for exploring the area.
