The sites are close together but there is enough room to feel comfortable. The campground is right next to the Grande Ronde River, which is a great place to cool off and relax. The Umatilla National Forest is just a short drive away, and the area is great for hiking, biking and fishing. Hilgard Junction is a great spot for an overnight stay or a day visit. It is conveniently located right off of I-84 and is close to the Grande Ronde River. The campground has 18 sites with fire pits, water spigots, and garbage cans. There are two restrooms with running water and separate male and female rooms. The area is quiet and clean, and is a great spot to relax and cool off in the river. The Umatilla National Forest is nearby for those who wish to explore the area.

From The Campground

Hilgard Junction State Park is a beautiful park located next to Interstate 84 at its intersection with Highway 244 near the Grande Ronde River. The park offers camping and daytime activities among the cottonwood and ponderosa pine. The Grande Ronde River flows through the park, enticing anglers, rafters and swimmers. Beaver, mink, deer and a variety of birds inhabit the park area and can be viewed throughout the year. The park is open for day use from May 5 to Oct 15 and offers first-come, first-served camping during the same period. The park has 18 primitive sites with water nearby, paved parking at all sites (can accommodate self-contained RVs), restrooms with flush toilets, firewood for sale, Grande Ronde River rafting access, horseshoe pits, and an Oregon Trail interpretive shelter. One site is accessible to campers with disabilities.
