What others are saying about this campground
Lava Lake Campground is a scenic and wooded campground in a beautiful location. On a clear day, the view of the snow-capped mountains reflected in Lava Lake is breathtaking. The Lodge does not have a website, so to get a reservation you need to call the number listed for the park. They do have a small grocery store and a gas pump (if you want to pay the price). The showers are older, but clean and require a $1.00 token for 3 minutes of water. No Wi-Fi or cable TV, but good cell phone reception. The bathrooms are minimalistic with outhouse style toilets and no running water. There is a nice and handy camp store a short walk away at Lava Lake Resort which is on adjacent property. The camp host (Red) is helpful and accommodating. Despite the algae type growth in the lake, it is still beautiful and the surrounding pine trees provide plenty of shade. The RV park next door may allow showers ($).

From The Campground

Deschutes National Forest is a beautiful forest area in Oregon that offers a variety of recreational opportunities for visitors. The forest has over 1,200 miles of summer trails, with over 95% of them open to dogs off-leash. In winter, dogs are allowed off-leash on 99% of national forest lands managed by the Deschutes National Forest. However, there are leash restrictions in some areas during the summer months. The forest also has several campgrounds and day-use areas that require dogs to be on-leash unless they are entering or exiting the water. The Three Sisters Wilderness Area and a portion of the Deschutes River Trail also require dogs to be on-leash during certain times of the year. Visitors can obtain permits to bring their dogs for skijoring or dog sledding in certain areas during the winter months. The Bend Municipal Watershed Area is closed to dogs and other domestic animals at all times to protect the quality of the city's municipal water supply.
