We stopped at Pine Grove Furnace State Park for a weekend camping trip. The campground is located in a beautiful forested area, with plenty of space to accommodate traditional tents, hammocks, and even those who prefer to sleep under the stars. The sites are large and level, and there is a large parking pad to accommodate campers or trailers. The park offers two swimming lakes and plenty of trails, including a section of the Appalachian Trail. The campground is conveniently close to Gettysburg and Antietium, and there is an Appalachian Trail Museum, an old Ironmasters Mansion, and a camp store with Hersheys Ice Cream. Cell service is limited in the campground, so be prepared to be out of touch for a while.

Pine Grove Furnace State Park is a 696-acre park located in Gardners, PA. The park offers visitors a variety of recreational activities, including swimming in two lakes, hiking the Appalachian Trail, biking the rail trail, and visiting the Appalachian Trail Museum. The park also features a modern campground with upgraded facilities, year-round trout fishing, and special events such as the Fall Furnace Festival and the Appalachian Trail Museum Festival. Visitors can also tour the Ironmaster's Mansion, which serves as a hostel and educational facility. The park is surrounded by Michaux State Forest, providing opportunities for exploring extensive public lands around South Mountain. Please note that cell phone coverage is spotty at best and non-existent in most areas of the park and surrounding state forest.
