GenieSummary

Barnwell State Park in Blackville, SC is a relaxing and inexpensive location for camping. Despite its small size, all campsites have access to water and electric, and the tent sites have tent pads. The host was friendly and welcoming, and the park was fairly quiet, making for a peaceful stay. While some campsites are on a slight incline, visitors have been able to level their trailers without a problem. The gravel sites are surrounded by shade, and the small lake offers an opportunity for fishing, with many campers having good luck catching bass and catfish. The park is easy to access, with the campground located to the left and the office on the right. Though the roads in the campground are slightly torn up, there is no day-use fee, making it a great value for a laid-back camping experience.

From The Campground

Barnwell State Park is a community favorite among the residents of Blackville, South Carolina. One of 16 state parks built by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression, Barnwell is best known for its great fishing spots. Three small lakes host a large population of crappie, bream, bass and catfish. Overnighters can take advantage of the Barnwell State Park cabins and campground, both of which sit only a short walk from the park lakes. Recreational opportunities include non-motorized fishing boat rentals, picnicking and a nature trail that winds around one of the lakes. A community building is available for meetings, reunions, weddings and other group gatherings.
