Wateree Recreation Area is a military campground located on a 25 acre peninsula of Wateree Lake. It offers a peaceful and picturesque stay with its own beach and boat ramp. Despite the busy voice mail, the campground is usually quiet and the staff is seldom seen. Unfortunately, the common areas and sites are not well maintained and there is trash throughout the facility. The sites are not numbered and the road is narrow, with several inconveniently located trees. There is no parking for tow vehicles and the grills are broken and unusable. The bathrooms are clean and large, with 4 toilet stalls, 4 showers and a private handicapped toilet room and shower room. Check-in is required before setting up at a site. Overall, the campground does not meet military standards.
