Lake Hartwell is a great spot for boating, kayaking, or swimming, and it provides a wonderful view of the fall foliage at dawn. Despite common criticisms, the staff is friendly enough, and after-hours check-in is a breeze. Overall, it is a pleasant and peaceful camping experience for those who want to get away from it all.

Lake Hartwell State Park is located just off of I-85, at the South Carolina-Georgia border. The park is known for its superb fishing opportunities, thanks to the 56,000-acre Lake Hartwell, which is inhabited by striped and hybrid bass, largemouth, crappie, bream and catfish. Besides fishing, the park offers a basketball court, publicly accessible boat ramp, hiking, and camping. Every type of camping enthusiast will find a site that suits their needs for camping on Lake Hartwell. The park is one of a few in the state to offer the unique, single room camper cabins, which offer guests without camping gear an opportunity to experience the feel of camping on Lake Hartwell.
