What others are saying about this campground
Buck Hall Recreation Area is a small, quiet campground located in the Francis Marion National Forest, just off of Route 17, about 30 miles north of Charleston, SC. It offers stunning views of the coastal waterways, with a National Wildlife Refuge across the water and a half mile of trees between you and the highway. The campground is a great spot for outdoor activities, with a boat launch, fishing dock, and a trailhead for the Palmetto Trail. Each site is spacious, complete with a picnic table, firepit, 2 lantern poles, and electrical hookups, with a dump station at the back of the campground. The campground is surrounded by live oaks and Palmetto trees, providing plenty of shade. During shrimp baiting season (60 days starting the Friday nearest September 15) the campground is completely booked, so reservations during the main season are key. For a fee of $20 per night, campers can enjoy full hook-ups, showers, and a boat launch. Unfortunately, the bathhouses could use an update and a good scrubbing, and there are no poop bags at the dog station next to the bathhouse. The campground is a great spot for fishing, crabbing, and watching dolphins and other sea birds. It is also a great place to trailer a boat and cook over a campfire, with a bit of a warning to keep an eye on children and pets due to the lack of speed limit enforcement.
