Huntington Beach State Park in Murrels Inlet, SC is a beautiful state park with two beach entrances, huge grounds, surf fishing, bike paths, eating area and great wildlife trails for photos. It is a sweet spot near Myrtle Beach, SC yet far enough away from the overwhelming commercial properties, yet so many things to do! There is a large playground for children, ample facilities and privacy, quick walk to the beach and so much nature. It offers marsh boardwalks, sandy beaches with sea turtles, a full-on gift shop, a nature center with aquariums and presentations, and a crazy estate that you can tour. There are two campground areas: North and South, both of which are steps from the beach, excellent walking/running/riding trails, a history tour of Atalaya, a National Historic Landmark, and wetlands that offer some pretty interesting wildlife. The north rv/tent loop is very spacious with an abundance of grass and trees, all sites have power & water but only a few dozen with sewer. The south rv straight has full hook ups and concrete pads but are not as spacious as the north loop. The camp store has some minimal items, but make sure to bring meat tenderizer for the occasional jelly fish sting. There is also a rack at the store, nature center, Atalaya, beach accesses and jetty parking area. The sites around the perimeter of the loops are slightly larger, more shady and more private while those in the center are more open, sunny with fewer trees. The park has TERRIBLE WI-FI and cell service, but it is a great place to go bird watch, hike, bike, sit on beach, relax, and commune with nature. There are lots of restaurants and shopping opportunities nearby and action-packed Myrtle Beach is only a few minutes up the road. The reviews were pretty good and the beach is just on one side of the dunes. Although we couldnt see the ocean, we could hear the waves crashing from our site. Reservations are highly suggested, especially on weekends, even during the late fall and early spring months.
