What others are saying about this campground
Modoc Campground is a great spot for camping on Strom Thurmond Lake near the dam. It offers a variety of campsites, some with great views of the lake and private swimming areas. Many sites are configured in a T shaped access, so having good backing skills is a must. The campground is well maintained with plenty of restroom/shower houses and a playground for the kids. The sites are large and private, but some can be tricky to back into. The campground also offers a variety of activities such as biking, kayaking, fishing, and hiking. Cell service is good and data is available. The campground is family friendly and the staff is friendly and helpful. However, some sites are a good long walk from the closest bathroom, so take a bike or golf cart with you. There are only two single access dump stations for the entire park, so there may be a line of campers on a Sunday morning. Be sure to check the park map carefully when choosing your site to ensure it is within an easy walking distance of a restroom/shower house.
