GenieSummary
Coneross is a beautiful Corps of Engineers (COE) campground situated on Lake Hartwell. It offers spacious, level gravel sites with railroad tie borders, concrete picnic tables, fire rings, lantern stands, and 30-50 amp service. The roads are paved and the speed bumps keep traffic slow. Golf carts are not allowed unless you work there. There are no office or store onsite, but a Dollar General is just down the road. The tent camping is private with views of the lake and requires no hiking to get to. The beach areas are clean and parking is close. The push-button toilets can be difficult to get to work and there was a massive glob of bugs in one of the shower stalls. Site 29 is handicap-accessible, but the fire ring is not centrally located and is taller than usual. This makes it hard to build a fire. There are no full hookups, but there is a well-maintained double dump station. Cell coverage is good with two to three bars and several over-the-air TV stations. People drive fast through the park and there are lots of biting insects. The rules of no dogs running loose is not enforced. The bathrooms are not cleaned on a regular basis and the floors are often dirty. This is a great place to stay for a relaxing camping trip and to explore the area.
