What others are saying about this campground
Poinsett State Park is a great campground for those looking to explore the outdoors. Located in the sandhills, the park is ideal for mountain biking, hiking, and fishing. The park has a nice open grass field in the middle, perfect for a game of frisbee or for kids to run around and play. The camp sites are on the smaller side, but each site has a picnic table, fire ring, and plenty of space to set up a tent. The roads into and around the park are in need of repair, but once in the campground, the sites are very nice. The bath house is clean and the park has WiFi available at the office. There is also a small lake with canoes and paddle boats for rent, as well as a scenic overlook offering a 50-mile view. The park is a great spot for star gazing, with no light pollution, and is close to Congaree NP. However, the road up to the campground is one lane only and can be difficult to navigate with a large rig. Be aware that there is an Air Force training area nearby and you may hear heavy artillery late at night. The park is also known for its bugs, so be sure to bring insect repellent in the summer months.

From The Campground

Poinsett State Park is located in the High Hills of Santee, where the South Carolina Sandhills of the Midlands region meet the coastal plain region. The park offers a mixed ecosystem that yields a high degree of biodiversity and some of the most unique natural sightings in the park system, especially along the Palmetto trail which winds through the Manchester State Forest. Visitors can enjoy hiking and biking trails, fishing and johnboat rentals on the 10-acre lake, campsites, a fishing pond, a coquina bathhouse built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, pre-revolutionary grist mill ruins, and rustic cabins.
