Lake Vermillion Recreation Area in Canistota, SD offers RV sites that are well-spaced and clean. The sites are located in a paved loop road which is great for cycling. The beach, fishing pier and picnic area are a short walk or bike ride away, and really busy with family parties and people taking boats out of the water. If you prefer a quieter atmosphere, the RV sites are tucked away. Theres a dump station which can get busy in the morning so plan accordingly. The amenities include picnic tables, showers, beaches, hiking, biking trails, boat launch, and basketball hoops. Its half an hour away from Sioux falls. The host is great and the campsites are easy to get in and out. This is an ideal place for dogs to run around as theres tons of grass. Visitors only stayed one night but wished they could have stayed longer and will definitely come back if in the area. Even in the rain, Lake Vermillion Recreation Area was superb and well-kept - a job well done by the South Dakota State Parks!

From The Campground

Lake Vermillion Recreation Area is a popular area among fishermen, boaters and swimmers. This 512-acre reservoir is located 27 miles west of Sioux Falls. During the fall, sportsmen can find waterfowl and upland game within minutes from the park. The park offers camping cabins, tent-only campsites, and electrical campsites. Amenities include boat ramps, fish cleaning stations, hiking trails, picnic tables, playgrounds, showers, and swim beaches. Activities include basketball, biking, birdwatching, boating, fishing, geocaching, hiking, kayaking, picnicking, snowshoeing, swimming, and volleyball.
