The campground is located on the grounds of the Laura Ingalls Wilder Homestead and is a great place to stay if youre looking to explore the area. The campground offers basic camping for $10, RV spots with electric and water hookups for $30, and covered wagons for $60. The bathrooms are clean, with flush toilets and hot showers. There are also a few picnic tables and fire-pits throughout the field. The campground is family-run and offers a variety of activities from the 1880s such as visiting a one-room schoolhouse, making a corn on the cob doll, and going on a covered wagon ride. A great spot to stay for a night or two, with the added bonus of being able to explore the homestead and all its activities.
From The Campground
Camping at Ingalls Homestead is a unique way to experience the prairie. All sights are located on the land Charles Ingalls homesteaded. With just a handful of sites - 4 covered wagons, 1 bunkhouse, 4 RV sites, and tent camping - the prairie doesn't feel crowded. Visitors staying in the covered wagons and bunkhouse must provide their own bedding and toiletries. We have bathrooms and shower facilities. They are simple but clean and modern with hot water and flush toilets. Firewood is available for purchase, $7/bundle. Our Admission fee and our camping fee are separate. Our admission fee is required if you plan to be on our grounds during our open hours of 9am - 7pm. It is not a daily fee. You pay it once and it is good throughout the course of your stay. We do not offer any food service on-site, but we are only 1.5 miles from De Smet. There are restaurants serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Our local grocery store is also open 7 days/week.
