Elk Creek Resort and Lodge in Piedmont, SD is an older campground with a lot of permanent campers. While it may be small, all sites have great shade trees. The bathrooms may be older but are okay. However, some sites may have overgrown grass, uneven lots, and mud pits, especially after it rains. On the other hand, the resort offers lovely hiking trails, very friendly staff, and clean, well-serviced amenities. The location is off of the freeway, making it a great camping spot that feels secluded without being too far from civilization. While the park has potential and is in a great location, it could use some updates and improvements to better serve campers.

Elk Creek Resort is a 150-acre campground located in the Black Hills of South Dakota. They offer a variety of lodging options including three-plex cottages, four-plex cottages, Deerview log cabins, dry cabins, upper and lower level vacation homes, RV and tent camping. The resort features hiking trails, an outdoor pool, archery areas, playground, and horse shoes. They also have a Petrified Forest & museum, Gallery of Stone rock shop, Pine Tree gift shop, music recital space and piano, and an outdoor wedding chapel. Elk Creek Lodge and onsite bar are available for special group occasions upon request, sometimes during the summer, and for two weeks during the Sturgis Rally in August. Catering service references are available for weddings and events. The resort is conveniently located between Rapid City and Sturgis, and nearby attractions include Mt. Rushmore, Bear Country USA, Crazy Horse Memorial, Reptile Gardens, Devil's Tower, and Custer State Park.
