What others are saying about this campground
The Central States Fairgrounds Campground is an ideal spot for an overnight stay. With long pull-thrus, gravel sites, good power and water, and a dump station on the far side of the fairground, this campground is conveniently located to the university, bike path, and other recreational opportunities. The sites are close to the road, but traffic disappears at night, so noise is kept to a minimum. There are large grassy areas to walk the dog and, of course, it is at the fairgrounds if you are attending an event. The lack of sewer and shade trees were inconvenient, but the real issue is security. The county sheriff has advised that this is a high property crime area. There is a shower house a couple hundred yards away from the campground, and central electric boxes and water spigots for 4 sites in alternating grassy areas. Biggest problem is if you don’t call the fairgrounds M-F during business hours to make a reservation, you have to look up the camp host to unlock the electric box on an unoccupied site. There is also quick access to the city bike paths, laundry, grocery, and shopping in the area. Rates do not change during the Sturgis Rally, although even then there were few people using the park.
